Chisa Yukizome, a former student of Hope's Peak Academy and Super High School-Level Housekeeper, takes on the role of homeroom teacher for the diverse and challenging class 77-B. Her positive and competent attitude towards behavior correction and strengthening relationships impresses the students, who come from different backgrounds such as nurses, yakuza members, and princesses. Together, they learn to embrace the power of hope to overcome obstacles. On the other hand, Hajime Hinata, a student from the Reserve Course, yearns for a talent until he meets Chiaki Nanami, a Super High School-Level Gamer from class 77-B. Her hopeful perspective enlightens him. However, Hajime is unaware of sinister plans revolving around him that will result in Hope's Peak and ultimately, the world, falling into despair. Throughout Zetsubou-hen, the audience witnesses the daily routines of the academy as well as the lurking darkness that transforms hope into despair. The plans for the Most Awful, Biggest, and Most Tragic Event in Human History are set in motion, and the end begins.
