Technology is ubiquitous in the year 2020, with a singular network connecting every digital device across the globe. Little does humanity know, this very network harbors sentient creatures dubbed "Digimon." As fifth-grader Taichi Yagami prepares for summer camp, Tokyo's electronic systems begin to malfunction. Desperate to save his trapped sister and mother aboard a runaway train, Taichi races to the nearest station - only to find himself whisked away to a foreign realm. Here, he encounters a bizarre creature called Agumon, unconsciously acquainted with Taichi's name. Along with a curious gadget known as a "Digivice," Taichi gains the ability to communicate with the undigitized world. It soon dawns on Taichi that he's entered the "Network," embroiled in a crisis by virus-like Digimon attacking Tokyo's critical electronic hubs. With his newfound partner Agumon by his side, Taichi takes on the task of foiling these cyberattacks before they spiral out of control and jeopardize the entire planet.
