In the year 2015, the story takes place in the last era where magic holds power over the world. The organization, Chaldea, was established to safeguard humanity's existence by monitoring both the magical and scientific realms, and to prevent the final elimination of mankind. Numerous researchers had ensured the path of humanity's future up to a hundred years. Yet, unexpectedly, the future realm under Chaldea's watch vanished. The extinction of the human race in 2017 became not only an observed, but a confirmed fact. The reason for the eradication of mankind traced back to a Japanese city called Fuyuki in 2004 - a place that had an unidentifiable dimension that never existed before. To investigate, unearth, and potentially eliminate this anomaly responsible for human extinction, Chaldea called for a "Holy Grail Expedition" also known as a Grand Order.
