Description:

Kanji Sasahara, a shy college freshman in search of a sense of belonging, chances upon the Society for the Study of Modern Visual Culture, nicknamed Genshiken, which brings together enthusiasts of all aspects of otaku culture. Unfortunately, his first visit to the club ends in disappointment after being belittled by his senior, Harunobu Madarame, leaving him in denial of his own otaku interests. However, Sasahara forges a friendship with Makoto Kousaka, a seemingly unlikely otaku, and becomes more involved in club activities such as discussing their favorite anime, reading doujinshi, and attending conventions. While Saki Kasukabe, Kousaka's girlfriend, tries to comprehend otaku culture and persuade Kousaka to become a "normal guy," Sasahara abandons his former denial and wholeheartedly embraces the otaku way of life.
