Description:
Following the termination of "The World," an incredibly popular virtual reality MMORPG, a new version called "The World R:2" is introduced. On his inaugural day in the game, Haseo, a newcomer, is excited to have found some companions for his quest. Unfortunately, they betray him by killing his character just for fun. However, he is saved by a one-armed player named Ovan who offers to show him around. Haseo spends a delightful year in the game with Ovan and his cleric friend Shino. However, their idyllic existence is disrupted when a notorious figure, Tri-Edge, kills Shino's character, sending her into a coma along with other comatose victims of Tri-Edge's wrath. Fueled by anger, Haseo vows to avenge Shino's fate by hunting down Tri-Edge. Set during Haseo's early days in The World, .hack//Roots explores his cherished relationships in the game before Tri-Edge cruelly snatches them away.
