Description:
Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu Gaiden comprises of two OVA adaptations of side stories from the Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu novel series. The initial adaptation tracks the accomplishments of Reinhard von Müsel and Siegfried Kircheis of the Galactic Empire before the critical Battle of Astarte. In "The Silver-White Valley," Reinhard and Kircheis complete their military academy education and are dispatched to the frozen planet Kapche-Lanka. However, their new superior plans to murder Reinhard in favor of Annerose von Grünewald's opponent without their knowledge. "Dreams of the Morning, Songs of the Night" sees Reinhard and Kircheis assigned to the Imperial Military Police and exposed to the corrupt and oppressive practices of the Empire's law enforcement. They are given orders to investigate the death of a student at their alma mater. As Reinhard anticipates his new title of Count von Lohengramm, Kircheis heads to the man-made resort satellite Kreuznach III for a vacation in "Dishonor." Unable to settle, Kircheis assists the local police in solving a drug trafficking case linked to an attack on a dishonored former Vice Admiral. In "A Hundred Billion Stars, a Hundred Billion Lights," as a commodore in charge of only a single squadron, Reinhard is frustrated by the incompetence of his superiors during a battle against the Free Planets Alliance. Under the strict direction of Vice Admiral Richard von Grimmelshausen, Reinhard amasses military victories, engaging in repeated clashes with Hermann von Lüneburg, a commodore and former regimental commander of the Alliance's infamous Rosen Ritter.
