Description:

The end of the tanuki's tricks came with the start of the Meiji era when their ability to shapeshift into humans failed to deceive modern technology. Despite this, young tanuki girl, Mameda, remains determined to follow in her father's footsteps and continues her tradition of duping humans. She travels to Osaka with hopes of success, but as expected, fails to deceive anyone and is pursued by an angry crowd. Finding safety in a theater, Mameda discovers the art of rakugo through a performance by Bunko Daikokutei. Captivated by the style of storytelling, Mameda decides to become Bunko's apprentice. Initially hesitant to take on a disciple, Bunko is impressed by Mameda's perseverance and begins to teach her the art of rakugo. With taiko apprenticeship, theater work, and play memorization, Mameda must dedicate herself fully if she hopes to master the only art that may still have the ability to deceive people.
