Many years ago, there was a prophecy that foretold a catastrophic event in the nine provinces of Kyushu. It was said that falling comets would deplete the spiritual energies of both the heavens and the lands, resulting in an era of disorder throughout the world. Interestingly, the comets passed by without causing any disaster. However, a boy by the name of Ouriku was born in a secluded village in the Sokei region at around the same time, perhaps influenced by the cosmic phenomenon. Fast forward twelve years later, people have nearly forgotten the prophecy. During this time, the Reikenzan clan, one of the five supreme sects of the nine provinces, decides to hold an examination to recruit talented individuals who can become their disciples and eventually lead to becoming sages. Upon hearing this news, Ouriku and his servant Ouchou set out to participate in the examination, unaware that the organizer, Oubu, known for her charming appearance and her inclination towards recklessness and carefree attitude, made the trials unpredictable. The story of Reikenzan: Hoshikuzu-tachi no Utage follows Ouriku as he braves the trials and tribulations in the quest to become a powerful sage.
