Description:

As a new student at Shohoku high school, Hanamichi Sakuragi held a dubious honor: he was rejected by 50 girls in middle school. His towering stature of nearly 2 meters and his bright red hair gave him a bad reputation as a troublemaker, causing most students to avoid him. However, one day, a fearless girl named Haruko Akagi approached Hanamichi and asked him a simple question: "Do you like basketball?" Instantly, Hanamichi found himself head over heels for this girl of his dreams. Without hesitation, he replied that he loved basketball, and they headed to the gymnasium. It was there that he discovered the exhilarating feeling of performing a slam dunk. He also learned about Rukawa, one of Japan's top basketball prospects, who happened to be a fellow freshman at Shohoku.
