Description:
The world has been forsaken by God, resulting in a perpetual limbo where the living cannot die and new life cannot be born while the restless "dead" wander. God grants one last miracle and creates "gravekeepers," mystical beings capable of putting the dead to rest through a proper burial. Ai, a cheerful yet unsophisticated young girl, takes on her late mother's role as her village's gravekeeper. Hampnie Hambart, a man who claims to be Ai's father, arrives one day and slaughters everyone in the village. With nothing left to lose, Ai decides to join the enigmatic stranger on his travels around the land, fulfilling her duty as a gravekeeper by granting peace to the deceased and aiding the living. Along the way, she gains insight into the world that God abandoned, now trapped in its tragic state.
