The dominance of fire as the center of human civilization has long since faded, with its catastrophic aftermath now instilling fear in the hearts of the populace. Due to incessant wars, humans have undergone a transformation, rendering them highly flammable when in proximity to natural flames. Nevertheless, society perseveres, thanks to a precious resource - a rock-like stone found embedded within monsters residing in various forests, capable of producing steam and light. The dangerous task of gathering these resources falls upon a group of individuals known as fire hunters. Touko, a girl from a nearby village, faces imminent danger from a monstrous creature in the forest when she is saved by a courageous fire hunter who valiantly sacrifices himself to save her life. The hunter's loyal companion, Kanata, is also hurt but recovers while maintaining a serene acceptance of his comrade's demise. Touko is then entrusted with the responsibility of returning Kanata and the fire sickle, belonging to her late rescuer, to his kin in the capital. In the meantime, the dead fire hunter's son, Koushi, along with his sister, is taken in by a wealthy family, exposing him to alarming revelations about the ruling royal family. Performing covert studies on a special fire stone discovered by his father, Koushi races against time to ensure the survival of humanity, unaware of the grave danger that lurks. His people's fate hinges on his swift actions, as he seeks to save his people from peril at the hands of their own leaders.
