The plot of Appleseed Alpha takes a different direction from the previous movies, with a distinct chain of events and a fresh start for the characters Deunan and Briareos. Despite having the same director, this new tale presents an alternate account of their origins. Instead of joining ESWAT in Olympus, Briareos is already a cyborg, and the two traverse through the dystopian remnants of New York, in search of a new abode in the legendary city of Olympus. During their expedition, they encounter Two Horns, a potent warlord, who hires them to terminate menacing combat machines. In the course of their mission, they come across two other individuals, Iris and Olson, who are also on a quest. Deunan and Briareos ally themselves with them and decide to work together. Their freshly-formed group is tasked with a critical mission: to prevent the wicked cyborg, Talos, from acquiring access to an exclusive human weapon. Talos enlists Iris to trigger a mammoth war machine, leading to a high-stakes confrontation.
