Description:

Due to global warming, much of the Earth is now submerged underwater in the future. Maia Mizuki is a 15-year-old orphan who recently graduated from middle school and applied to work for the elite paramilitary Ocean Agency, which is part of the futuristic world government. However, the agency only accepts the most intelligent, physically fit students, and Maia unexpectedly fails her entrance exams. To make matters worse, she is evicted from her home, robbed, kidnapped, and shot. Fortunately, two women named Rena and Shizuka from an unconventional help-for-hire group called Nereids (named after the Greek mythological Nereids) rescue her from her dire situation. With no other options, Maia joins Nereids and takes on various jobs, ranging from capturing fugitives to rescuing stray animals, which often lead to unforeseen consequences. Eventually, Gloria and Yu also join Nereids. The "Daphne" subplot, which becomes significant to Maia, appears midway through the series, while "Brilliant Blue" reflects the world of endless oceans, a few islands, and floating cities that replaced land.
