Description:
The version of Pinocchio presented here portrays a wooden doll, brought to life by a mystical blue fairy, as extremely gullible, naive, and morally confused. To become worthy of humanity, Pinocchio (Mokku) must overcome numerous character flaws, such as selfishness, rudeness, insensitivity, and arrogance. This character must learn from costly and painful experiences, which include being tormented, bullied, humiliated, and beaten due to his delinquency and disobedience. The story is a straightforward depiction of the harsh reality of growing up without humanity, conveying the message of moral observance through tough endurance. This traditional Japanese story makes it another great example of moral teachings through personal struggle.
