Description:
Natsume Natsume possesses a unique ability to see youkai that are invisible to others. To protect the peaceful lives of his friends and family, he conceals his gift from them. Nevertheless, he shows kindness to kind-hearted youkai and returns their names with the Book of Friends, an heirloom passed down to him by his grandmother, Reiko. Although the Matoba clan, a group of exorcists, recognizes Natsume's remarkable talent, he firmly declines their offer to join their ranks. He knows that not all exorcists, except for his friend Shuuichi Natori, treat youkai fairly and indiscriminately seal them away. Seiji Matoba refuses to accept Natsume's refusal and crafts a plan to blackmail him into joining the clan. Natsume ends up in the company of dangerous people and youkai alike, but he remains steadfast in his beliefs. He believes that peace between both worlds is possible and refuses to conform to the exorcists' oppressive ways.
