In a world where only Pokémon roam, a Hikozaru dreams of becoming part of the Pukurin Guild, where Exploration Teams gather to work together. Feeling intimidated by the power of the Guild members and their strict security measures, Hikozaru runs away. But before he can make his escape, he comes across an unconscious Pochama. When Pochama wakes up, he's shocked to find out that not only can Hikozaru talk, but also that he himself isn't really a Pokémon. In fact, he's a human who's lost all his memories. Confused and with many questions, Pochama turns to Hikozaru for guidance. Hikozaru suggests seeking out the Pukurin Guild's leader for help. Although Guildmaster Pukurin can't explain Pochama's transformation, he bestows upon the duo the title of Pokédan and makes them an Exploration Team. Their first mission is to venture into the dangerous Labyrinth Cave along with the skilled Kimawari and obtain a Gabite Scale.
