Description:
Ryoukan was a celebrated Buddhist monk and poet who lived during the Edo Period in 18th century Japan. Despite hailing from a wealthy family in Izumozaki, Ryoukan forsook a life of ease to discover the true purpose of existence through the teachings of Buddhism. He subjected himself to grueling training that required an austere and solitary lifestyle that persisted from his youth to adulthood.
