Yuki Nagato, a shy bookworm and gamer, is the president of North High School's Literary Club in a familiar yet distinct universe. She shares the club with her friends, Ryouko Asakura, who is overly cautious, and Kyon, who is entirely average. Despite having only three members, Yuki cherishes the peace and quiet in their company, primarily when she's with Kyon, whom she has a crush on. Tsuruya and Mikuru Asahina, two friends with opposite personalities, often visit the Literary Club, adding to the mix. On a cold December day, Yuki is walking back to her apartment when a girl coerces her into drawing strange symbols on the ground. That girl turns out to be Haruhi Suzumiya, an eccentric student from Kouyouen Academy on the hunt for aliens, time travelers, and espers. When Haruhi and her friend Itsuki Koizumi suddenly appear in the clubroom, they declare themselves official members of the Literary Club, with Haruhi taking up the position of executive president. The tranquil days of the Literary Club are now a thing of the past, with Yuki and her friends getting swept up in a series of misadventures under Haruhi's leadership. Despite the chaos that ensues, each incident only brings Yuki and Kyon closer than ever.
