During the 71st year of the True Era, humanity had successfully ventured into space, establishing independent colonies throughout the galaxy. The world was divided into two major powers, the Atlantic Rim United States (ARUS) and the Dorssia Military Pact Federation (Dorssia), who were at war both on Earth and in outer space. In the midst of this conflict, a third party consisting of Japan and the Islands of the Oceanian Republic (JIOR) remained neutral, enjoying economic prosperity and peaceful existence. The series, Kakumeiki Valvrave, starts with the story of 17-year-old Haruto Tokishima, who lived a peaceful life in a JIOR colony until a sudden Dorssian fleet attacked, violating the neutrality of the colony. Their objective was to capture powerful mechanized weapons called Valvraves, which were rumored to be hidden in Sakimori Academy, Haruto's school. Amidst the chaos, Haruto discovered one of the Valvraves and, in order to save his friends, he entered the mecha and made a pact to give up his humanity in exchange for its power. Together with L-elf, a mysterious Dorssian agent and gifted strategist, Haruto and the Valvrave started a revolution to liberate the world from the war between ARUS and Dorssia.
