Description:
The significance of this pilot lies in the fact that it marked Miyazaki's debut as a solo director. While he had collaborated with Takahata on later episodes of the Lupin III series in 1971-72, Yuki's Sun provided him with the opportunity to lead on his own. Adapted from Tetsuya Chiba's highly acclaimed shoujo manga from 1963, the plot of the story centers around a 10-year-old girl who has lost her parents and finds a new family. Chiba's manga was recognized for its intricate plotlines and strong emphasis on melodrama, setting it apart as a sophisticated and mature work compared to the popular works of Osamu Tezuka, hailed as the father of modern Japanese manga.
