Throughout history, Heaven has required young angels to live among humans and receive an education in order to attain full angelic status. This applies to the exceptional Gabriel White Tenma, who is determined to become a remarkable angel that spreads joy among humankind. However, Gabriel's passion for video games leads her down a path of seclusion, causing her to become a hikikomori. She focuses solely on her self-proclaimed "Fallen Angel" status, disconnected from everything else, which vexes her former angelic companion, Vignette April Tsukinose, who happens to be a demon. Vignette's attempts to reconnect Gabriel with her former self prove to be in vain as Gabriel remains fixed on her cherished way of life. While on Earth, they encounter two distinct characters: Raphiel Ainsworth Shiraha, an angelic classmate of Gabriel's with a penchant for masochism, and Satanichia McDowell Kurumizawa, a clumsy demon who believes she is destined to rule the underworld. Gabriel DropOut tracks the misfortunes of these four companions as they attempt to understand what it truly means to be an angel or demon.
