Description:
In 1917, Taiwan was under Japanese occupation and faced severe drought and famine, particularly in the Chianan Plain. The locals struggled daily to transport water to their homes and lived in deplorable conditions. Upon the arrival of Yoichi Hatta, a Japanese civil engineer, with a revolutionary plan to transform the area's irrigation system, the residents immediately dismissed him as a fraud. Xu Yingzhe, the son of a destitute farmer, felt compelled to challenge the rejection of Hatta's proposal and sought to understand the situation. Despite the seeming implausibility of Hatta's plan, it held the potential to improve the arduous existence of the Taiwanese people.
