Appare Sorrano has never let his social awkwardness or small-town upbringing hold him back from dreaming big. His fascination with steamships, and their ability to connect people across great distances, has inspired him to become a skilled inventor. His ultimate goal is to sail beyond the sky, to the other side of the moon. But when a series of events leave him stranded in the middle of the sea on a mini steamship, Appare is joined by Kosame Ishikki, a skilled but cowardly samurai tasked with keeping him in check. They are rescued by a large steamship and taken to Los Angeles, with no money or plans for their future. To earn some money and find their way home, they decide to enter the "Trans-America Wild Race." As they race against rival competitors and face unknown challenges in the wilderness, Appare has the opportunity to build his own automobile, while Kosame hopes to win the cash prize to return home. How far will their adventure take them, and what obstacles will they overcome along the way? Only time will tell for Appare and Kosame.
