Liz and the Blue Bird

Liz to Aoi Tori; Liz and the Blue Bird

Liz and the Blue Bird
Studios: Kyoto Animation
Description:
Liz's days of being alone come to an end when she encounters a young girl who takes on the form of a blue bird. Though they develop an intimate bond, Liz's adoration for Blue Bird can only be truly understood by making a heartrending decision. Mizore Yoroizuka and Nozomi Kasaki, seniors and close friends, are tasked with playing the lead roles in the third movement of Liz and the Blue Bird, a concert band piece inspired by this fairy tale. Mizore, who is introverted and reserved, plays the oboe, symbolizing Liz's kind and gentle nature. Meanwhile, Nozomi, who is lively and popular, plays the flute, which represents Blue Bird's upbeat and energetic disposition. During rehearsals, Mizore and Nozomi's distance seems to widen. Their discombobulated duet disappoints the band, and their upcoming graduation raises complicated emotions about their uncertain futures. With minimal time to improve, they desperately try to connect with their respective characters as their performance approaches. However, when they evaluate the story from a new perspective, will they muster the courage to face harsh realities? Liz to Aoi Tori, a derivative film adaptation of the Hibike Euphonium! series, skillfully dances between the parallels of a charming fairy tale, a touching musical piece, and a delicate high school friendship.
