In a forest nestled deep in the countryside, Okina toils away as a bamboo cutter, slicing through the hollow plants day after day. One fateful day, he stumbles upon an illuminating shoot that reveals a tiny baby within. Instantly, he brings her home, convinced she is a heaven-sent princess gracing Earth with divine blessings. Okina and his wife Ouna raise the newborn as their own, watching joyfully as she transforms into a sprightly young girl. Dubbed Kaguya, the child melds effortlessly into village life, partaking in escapades with fellow youngsters and reveling in the simple pleasures of youth. However, everything changes when Okina discovers a vast fortune of gold and treasure in the forest. Certain that this too is a gift from above, he uses the newfound wealth to transform his daughter into a genuine princess, moving his family to the capital's opulent mansion. As Kaguya is torn away from her friends to embark on an unwelcome life of royalty, her true origins and purpose gradually unravel.
